I'm not sure if you were thinking of a specific verse, but there are several that talk about the wicked being caught in t heir onw nets or traps.

"Let destruction come upon him unexpectedly, and let his net that he has hidden catch himself; into that very destruction let him fall." -Psalm 35:8

"The nations have sunk down in the pit which they made; in the net which they hid, thier own foot is caught." -Psalm 9:15

"The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be caught in the plots which they have devised." -Psalm 10:2

"Behold, the wicked brings forth iniquity; yes, he conceives trouble and brings forth falsehood. He made a pit and dug it out, and has fallen into the ditch which he made."
It sounds like something James Allen would say. Here's a few of his:

Circumstance

Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him.

James Allen
1864-1912, British-born American Essayist, Author of ''As a Man Thinketh''

Thoughts and Thinking

Our life is what our thoughts make it. A man will find that as he alters his thoughts toward things and other people, things and other people will alter towards him.

James Allen
1864-1912, British-born American Essayist, Author of ''As a Man Thinketh''

Thoughts and Thinking

You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you.

James Allen
1864-1912, British-born American Essayist, Author of ''As a Man Thinketh''

Work

Work joyfully and peacefully, knowing that right thoughts and right efforts will inevitably bring about right results.

James Allen
1864-1912, British-born American Essayist, Author of ''As a Man Thinketh''

Hope this helps.

Yes, both of your replies apply exactly to what i was thinking.The martyrs are perfect examples of faith during persecution. Your point Christiana that there are different types of danger for Christians, needs to be explained to the world. They have one view of danger and traps and yet they fall into other just as dangerous traps all the time. The devil however has hidden the bad things behind a facade of pleasure and good. I cant remember the reference right now but a passage says, "They spread a net before my feet." The verse then goes on to say however that, "They fell into it instead." This needs to be our prayer as we live our lives in today's culture. We must pray that those who tempt us will fall into their own temptations and then realize how good God is.

" I am poured out like water,
And all My bones are out of joint;
My heart is like wax;
It has melted within Me.
My strength is dried up like a potsherd,
And My tongue clings to My jaws;
You have brought Me to the dust of death.
But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me;
O My Strength, hasten to help Me!
Deliver Me from the sword,
My precious life from the power of the dog.
Save Me from the lion’s mouth
And from the horns of the wild oxen!
You have answered Me.
With the lack of outright, physical persecution in our own country (the US), we face a different danger. One that is subtle and wears bright clothing, thus making it less obvious to our sight. It is most simply the danger of insipidness (is that a word?). We are lukewarm Christians. We live in relative comfort, we can go days, even weeks, without having to give a reason for why we believe what we do. We are drawn into the culture around us and are afraid to live for what we believe for fear of being despised or ridiculed (perhaps not with an open mocking, but people have other ways of saying very clearly without words that they dasapprove of you). This is a hard situation to be in but we can find comfort in the fact that, as Christ was with those who were burned at the stake for their trust in Him, so will He be with us when we are in danger of being despised for our trust, no matter how trivial our trials may seem in comparison to the early saints'.

Your reply makes me think of the early church fathers who were persecuted for their faith. They were given the strength to declare openly what they believed and they lived out what they believed. They knew that whatever their persecutors did to them, whether it was being burnt alive, fed to wild animals, beaten, crucified, etc., nothing was worse than if they rejected their beliefs and turned away from following Christ. They spoke out against the pagan religions and declared their faith openly and without fear. They were steadfast in their faith even unto death and their amazing examples of trust brought many to the faith. The blood of the martyrs was the seed of the church.

How much more should we declare what we believe when we are not in danger of being persecuted for it!

Star- what you type is not important in one way but it is important in another way. What you say, do etc.. shows what you believe. So it is important because it shows what you believe. If we dont say and speak what we belive then we are abdicating our roles as Christians. We need to say what we believe and then live out what we say we believe. If we dont live out what we say we believe then we are even worse hypocrites. It may take guts to say what you believe, but if you are really a Christian then it is not hard to say what you believe becuase you know that no matter what happens you will be with Christ. He will live in you and you in Him. Often if we are silent and do not respond to the attacks on Christianity, we can start to doubt our faith because of the multitude of arguements against Christianity. We must not be silent but we must also live out what we say lest we be called hypocrites and only damage the Christian faith.
